A recently completed $70 million renovation and restoration of the landmark Humble Oil complex includes two Marriott properties, a parking garage and luxury apartments. Restoration of the original 1921 structure (which became the first office building in Houston to have central air conditioning in 1932) and its 1936 and 1940 additions was done in accordance with strict preservation guidelines established by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior. Original details of note include rose marble wainscoting, polished brass elevator doors, period mail slots and steel accordion windows. The project also includes a careful restoration of the Humble Oil boardroom (with its marble fireplace and curved ceiling) on the ninth floor of the original 1921 building

The redevelopment of the building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a partnership between New Orleans-based Historic Restoration Inc. and Housing Horizons LLC, a division of Dallas-based Kimberly-Clark Corp., a company that specializes in tax-credit real estate projects.

The Courtyard is housed in the original Humble Oil Building completed in 1921, while the Residence Inn occupies a wing added to the complex in 1940. The two hotels are licensed by Washington, D.C.-based Marriott International. The project also includes 82 luxury apartment homes and 6,000 sq. ft. of retail space.
